The 1959 Mini car was a revolutionary vehicle that changed the way small cars were designed and built. It was designed by Alec Issigonis for the British Motor Corporation (BMC) to address the need for a fuel-efficient and affordable car in the post-war era. Its innovative design, which included a transversely mounted engine, front-wheel drive, and a monocoque bodyshell allowed for a surprisingly spacious interior and excellent handling, despite the car’s small size.
The Mini was also very affordable, making it popular with a wide range of buyers. It quickly became a cultural icon, and was featured in numerous films and television shows, including The Italian Job and Mr. Bean.
It was also the subject of numerous performance modifications, and won many motorsport events, including the Monte Carlo Rally.
The classic Mini remained in production until 2000, and over 5 million cars were built.
This is an N scale model, 1:148 scale and comes on a plinth, with a clear case lid and an Oxford Automobile wrap. This is classic colour scheme for a classic car! The contrast between the solid grey body and the off-white roof proves an attractive combination which extends to the elegant grey interior of the car too. Our Mini is registered FHP 631C from 1965.
For such a small model the detail is often difficult to present – at 20mm long it the same size as 1p!
Packed: 6.3cm x 6cm x 3.9cm ( L x W x H )
Unpacked: 2.5cm x 1cm x 1.1cm ( L x W x H )
1:148 (N) scale means that this is 148 times smaller than the full sized vehicle(s)
